Scientists Uncover Secrets of Ancient Mayfly Dance
New research reveals that mayflies, which have existed for around 300 million years, perform a unique vertical flight dance that plays a crucial role in their survival. This behaviour, observed along the River Thames, involves males climbing steeply, flipping over, and gliding back down, resembling a skydiving posture. Mayflies are among the oldest winged insects, with a design that has changed little over time.
